About “Tarikh al-Sudan”
The Tarikh al-Sudan is a West African chronicle written in Arabic around 1655 by the Timbuktu chronicler al-Sa'di. It is the most important primary source for the history of the Songhai Empire. Alongside the Tarikh al-fattash, another 17th-century chronicle that covers the history of Songhay, it is part of a pair of texts known as the Timbuktu Chronicles.
