About “The Adventures of Captain Horn”
The three-masted schooner Castor, en route from San Francisco to Valparaiso, was struck by a tornado off the coast of Peru in the spring of 1884. The storm caused severe damage, snapping the masts, destroying the rudder-post, and leaving the ship adrift and rolling in the sea, with debris from the wreck striking her sides.
