About “The Alchemy of Happiness”

Kimia-yi Sa'ādat is a book written by Abū Ḥāmid Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Ghazālī, a Persian theologian, philosopher, and Muslim author. It was written towards the end of his life, shortly before 499 AH/1105 AD. At the time, the Muslim world was experiencing political and intellectual unrest. Al-Ghazālī noted disputes over the role of philosophy and scholastic theology, and Sufis faced criticism for neglecting Islamic ritual obligations. The book helped reduce tensions between scholars and mystics. It emphasized the importance of following Islamic rituals, actions leading to salvation, and avoiding sin. Its unique feature was a mystical focus on self-discipline and asceticism. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
