About “The beauty queen of Leenane”
This 1996 Irish black comedy by playwright Martin McDonagh is set in the mountains of Connemara, County Galway. It tells the darkly comic tale of Maureen Folan, a plain and lonely spinster in her early forties, and her devilishly manipulative ageing mother Mag, whose interference in Maureen's first and potentially last loving relationship sets in motion events that are as gothically funny as they are horrific.
