About “The Blue Umbrella”

Binya wanted a beautiful blue silk umbrella so badly that she traded her lucky leopards claw pendant for it. No one in the village had such a fine umbrella, and it followed her everywhere. Over time, the umbrella faded to a pale blue and became patched, but it remained a treasured possession. Many people in the village envied Binya for having it. Among them was old Ram Bharosa, the shopkeeper, who was the most envious and determined to own the blue umbrella himself.
