About “The Book of Fixed Stars”
The Book of Fixed Stars is an astronomical text written by Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi around 964. It was composed in Arabic, the scholarly language of the Islamic world, even though the author was Persian. The work aimed to combine Ptolemy's Almagest with traditional Arabic knowledge of the constellations. No original manuscript survives, but the text was preserved through later copies.
