The book follows forensics expert David Hunter as he becomes the target of Jerome Monk, a convicted serial killer who has escaped and is now hunting those involved in the original investigation of a body found buried on the moor. Eight years after the initial discovery, Monk's escape sets off a series of events in which those connected to the failed search for additional victims are systematically threatened.
