About “The Doors of Perception / Heaven and Hell”

The Doors of Perception is an essay written by Aldous Huxley and published in 1954. It describes his experience with mescaline in May 1953, focusing on the insights he gained during the psychedelic experience. Huxley writes about the aesthetic and spiritual aspects of his vision and considers the philosophical and psychological meaning of what he saw. A follow-up essay, Heaven and Hell, was published in 1956. Both essays have often been published together. Their titles are taken from a 1793 work by William Blake.
