The Duel is a novel by Russian author Aleksandr Kuprin, published in 1905. It is regarded as his finest work, bringing him widespread recognition. Although Kuprin gained initial attention with his 1896 short story Moloch, it was The Duel that established his fame. The novel earned high praise from other writers of the time, including Anton Chekhov, Maxim Gorky, Leonid Andreyev, Ivan Bunin, and Leo Tolstoy, who called him a true successor to Chekhov.
