About “The Economic Consequences of the Peace”
The Economic Consequences of the Peace (1919) is a book written by the British economist John Maynard Keynes. After World War I, Keynes attended the Paris Peace Conference of 1919 as a delegate of the British Treasury and deputy to the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the Supreme Economic Council. He resigned from his position early in the conference due to illness and left before it concluded. Keynes believed the treaty being negotiated was unsustainable from an economic perspective. In his book, he argued for a more lenient treaty, not only to help German civilians but also to protect the economic health of all of Europe and the Allied nations. He felt the Treaty of Versailles and related agreements threatened long-term economic stability. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
