The Egyptian is a historical novel written by Finnish author Mika Waltari. It was first published in 1945 in Finnish. An abridged English translation by Naomi Walford was published in 1949, translated from Swedish rather than the original Finnish. The novel is considered one of the most significant works in Finnish literature. It is among the most translated Finnish literary works and is the only Finnish novel to have been adapted into a Hollywood film, which was released in 1954.
