About “The elected member”

Norman is the gifted son of a close-knit Jewish family in the East End of London. A former child prodigy and successful barrister, he falls into drug addiction at age forty-one, isolating himself in his bedroom and suffering from hallucinations and paranoia. His hospitalization is seen as a betrayal by Norman, while his father, Rabbi Zweck, views it as a painful reminder of his failure. Norman's unmarried sister, Bella, remains a source of connection and hope, helping to bridge the emotional gap between her father and brother in their search for peace. The novel explores themes of family, guilt, and redemption.
