Jonathan, a thirteen-year-old boy, enlists in the militia during the Revolutionary War without his father's permission, driven by a desire to fight for independence alongside his brother and cousin. Over the course of twenty-four hours, he experiences the harsh and complex realities of war, encountering fellow soldiers, unsuspecting enemies, and events that profoundly alter his life.
