The Forsyte Saga is a series of three novels and two interludes written by John Galsworthy, an English author who won the 1932 Nobel Prize in Literature. First published under the title The Forsyte Saga in 1922, the works were released between 1906 and 1921. The story follows the lives of the Forsyte family, an upper-middle-class English family that mirrors Galsworthy's own background. The family, only a few generations removed from their farmer roots, is conscious of their "new money" status. The main character, Soames Forsyte, is a solicitor and art lover who defines himself as a "man of property" through his accumulation of material goods, but this does not bring him happiness.
