About “The Forty-Five Guardsmen”

The Forty-Five Guardsmen is a historical novel by Alexandre Dumas père, written between 1847 and 1848 with Auguste Maquet. It is set in 1585 and 1586 during the French Wars of Religion. The story is the third and final part of Dumas’s Valois trilogy, following La Reine Margot and La Dame de Monsoreau. It features Chicot the Jester, a character who appears in all three novels.
