In a small shack in Soweto, South Africa, Nombeko Mayeki is born. She is forced to work at age five and loses her parents at ten, facing a life expected to end in tragedy. However, Nombeko defies expectations by learning to read and write. At fifteen, she escapes Soweto with millions of smuggled diamonds. Her journey takes a dangerous turn when she is captured by an incompetent engineer working on South Africa's secret nuclear program. Nombeko escapes to Sweden, where she meets twins Holger One and Holger Two, who are trying to overthrow the Swedish monarchy. Her life becomes entangled with theirs, and when the twins plan to kidnap the king and prime minister, Nombeko must act to prevent disaster.
