The General History of Polybius is a historical account of the rise of Rome, written in the 2nd century BC by Polybius, a historian from the Greek city of Megalopolis in Arcadia. Originally written in 40 volumes, only the first five survive in their entirety, with the rest passed down through excerpts kept in Byzantine libraries.
