About “The History of the Adventures of Joseph Andrews”
Joseph Andrews, a prudent, brawny, pleasant young man, is dismissed from his position as footman by his widowed employer, Lady Booby, for refusing her advances, and flees London to rejoin his true love, Fanny Goodwill. On hearing of his disgrace, Fanny rushes to meet him, and both are set upon by thieves but are providentially rescued by Parson Adams, with whom they return to their parish, where Joseph and Fanny are married after comic-opera reversals and discoveries.
