About “The House of the Scorpion”
The story takes place in Opium, an opium-producing estate between Mexico (now Aztlán) and the United States, ruled by El Patrón, whose workforce includes enslaved illegal immigrants turned into zombie-like "eejits." Matt, a clone of the 140-some-year-old El Patrón, is grown to supply organs when El Patrón's fail, living first with cook Celia before his true nature and purpose are revealed.
