About “The Iron Dream”
The Iron Dream is a 1972 novel by American author Norman Spinrad. It is a metafictional work that presents a nested narrative. The outer layer is a faux-scholarly analysis by a fictional literary critic named Homer Whipple, written in 1959. The inner narrative is an alternate history story titled Lord of the Swastika, attributed to an alternate-history Adolf Hitler. In this timeline, Hitler emigrated to the United States in 1919 after the Great War. He used his artistic skills to become a pulp science fiction illustrator and later a writer, producing lurid, pro-fascist stories under a science fiction guise. The novel explores themes of ideology, art, and the power of storytelling. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
