About “The Last Jew”

After witnessing the murder of his father and brother, Yonah Toledano promises to honor their memory by staying Jewish, even as the Spanish government plans to expel all Jews. Yonah is forced to leave his homeland in search of a place where he can live without giving up his faith. The novel follows his life from periods of poverty and loneliness to his later years as a respected doctor.
