About “The Maid of Orleans”
The Maid of Orleans is a satirical poem by Voltaire about Joan of Arc. It was first circulated in private readings and in manuscript form in the 1730s. As pirated prints appeared in the 1750s, Voltaire released an authorized edition that removed most of the bawdy and anticlerical content. An English translation of the poem was made by W. H.
