About “The McDonaldization of society”
The McDonaldization of Society is a 1993 book by sociologist George Ritzer. In this work, Ritzer introduces the concept of McDonaldization to describe how the fast-food restaurant model has influenced society. He argues that this model, characterized by efficiency, calculability, predictability, and control, has become a dominant force in shaping social structures and everyday interactions. Ritzer uses McDonald's as an example to illustrate how rationalization extends into personal identity and social behavior. The term was first proposed in an article published in The Journal of American Culture and later expanded in the book. A 2002 review described McDonaldization as a process that creates "mind-numbing sameness" in society. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
