About “The nigger of the "Narcissus"”
The Nigger of the 'Narcissus' is an 1897 novel by Joseph Conrad. Narcissus was a real ship, a pretty Clyde-built semi-clipper on which Conrad sailed as second mate, and the novel describes life on the "heartless sea" and the operation of sailing ships. The preface states the author's aim to make readers hear, feel, and see through the power of the written word.
