About “The Prisoner of the Caucasus”
The Prisoner of the Caucasus is a 1872 novella by Leo Tolstoy written for his ABC book. It was meant for rural children and uses simplified language. The story is based on an event from the Caucasian War that occurred to Tolstoy in June 1853 near Grozny. The title refers to a 1821 poem by Pushkin.
