About “The Robber Bridegroom”
"The Robber Bridegroom" is a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm, numbered as tale 40. It has a variant known as "Mr. Fox," which was included by Joseph Jacobs in English Fairy Tales. The original story is older than the Grimm version, and there is evidence of its existence in earlier literature. Shakespeare referenced a version of the tale in Much Ado About Nothing, Act 1, Scene 1, where a character uses a phrase that matches the theme of the story. The tale is part of the broader tradition of folk stories that have been passed down through different cultures and languages. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
