About “The shepheard's calender”
The Shepheardes Calender, published in 1579, was Edmund Spenser's first major poetic work. Written in emulation of Virgil's Eclogues but modeled on the Renaissance eclogues of Mantuanus, it uses deliberately archaic spellings evoking medieval literature and Chaucer. Spenser dedicated the poem to Philip Sidney. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
