She becomes suspicious of the overly submissive behavior of the local housewives and begins to believe they may be robots created by their husbands. The novel explores themes of conformity, gender roles, and the hidden dangers of suburban life. It was later published in Reader's Digest Condensed Books and included in Three by Ira Levin.
