"The Story of an Hour" is a short story written by Kate Chopin on April 19, 1894. It was first published in Vogue on December 6, 1894, under the title "The Dream of an Hour." It was later reprinted in St. Louis Life on January 5, 1895, with the title "The Story of an Hour." The story follows Louise Mallard, who learns of her husband Brently Mallard's death and experiences a sense of freedom. Shortly after, she discovers that her husband is alive. The story was considered controversial in the 1890s due to its themes and portrayal of a female protagonist's emotional response to her husband's death.
