About “The Story of Ferdinand”

The Story of Ferdinand is a 1936 children's book written by Munro Leaf and illustrated by Robert Lawson. The story follows a bull named Ferdinand who prefers to sit and smell flowers rather than fight in bullfights. The book was published by Viking Books and later became associated with political themes after the Spanish Civil War. During World War II, the British Air Transport Auxiliary used the name Ferdinand as a call sign for non-combatant pilots. The book was adapted into an animated short in 1938 and a feature film in 2017, which was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 90th Academy Awards.
