The Summer Queen is a science fiction novel by Joan D. Vinge. The story follows three central characters whose fates intertwine. Moon Dawntreader is the Lady of Tiamat, determined to end offworld exploitation and protect the mers, whose blood grants immortality. Inspector Bz Gundhalinu, driven mad by his love for Moon, discovers the science of true starflight but brings destruction back to Tiamat. Reed Kullervo, a morally empty and memoryless genius, is unleashed on Tiamat as a weapon to destroy the Summer Queen.
