About “The Sunlight Dialogues”
The novel is set in the 1960s in Batavia, New York, and follows Batavia police chief Fred Clumly in his pursuit of a magician known as the Sunlight Man. The Sunlight Man, a champion of existential freedom and pre-biblical Babylonian philosophy, engages Clumly in a series of dialogues recorded on audiocassette, during which each attempts to exert power over the other—Clumly through law and a Judeo-Christian worldview, and the Sunlight Man through magic and violence—leading to the deterioration of both themselves and several other characters.
