About “The Vampyre”
The Vampyre is a short gothic story by John William Polidori, first published in 1819. It is regarded as the first modern vampire story. The main character is Lord Ruthven, an aristocrat who is both seductive and dangerous. He has unnatural powers and a strong desire for blood. Polidori presented the vampire as a Byronic figure, which influenced the way vampires are portrayed in later stories.
