About “Thousand Character Classic”

The Thousand Character Classic is a Chinese poem composed of exactly one thousand characters, each used only once. It is arranged into 250 lines of four characters each, grouped into four-line rhyming stanzas. Designed as a learning tool, it was used to teach Chinese characters to children starting in the sixth century. The text was sung to help with memorization, similar to alphabet songs in phonetic writing systems. Along with the Three Character Classic and the Hundred Family Surnames, it was a key part of traditional literacy education in the Sinosphere. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
