About “Three Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous”
Three Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous is a 1713 metaphysical work by George Berkeley. Written in the form of a dialogue, it presents arguments for idealism, the philosophical view that physical objects do not exist independently of the mind. The book was written in response to criticism Berkeley received after publishing A Treatise Concerning the Principles of Human Knowledge. Through a conversation between two characters, Hylas and Philonous, Berkeley defends his ideas and addresses counterarguments. The work is a key part of his philosophical contribution to the debate on the nature of reality. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
