About “Trangviksposten”
Trangviksposten is a satirical newspaper parody created by Jacob Hilditch. It first appeared as a feuilleton in the newspaper Aftenposten, representing a fictional local newspaper in a small town. The publication satirizes Norwegian local newspapers and the social conditions of small towns in the late 19th century. The fictitious town of Trangvik is located between Horten and Kristiansand. The editor of Trangviksposten, "Syvertsen," competes with another local paper called Trangvik Tidende. Artists such as Olaf Gulbransson, Theodor Kittelsen, and Øyvind Sørensen contributed illustrations. The newspaper was published in three volumes between 1900 and 1907. A selection was reprinted by Den norske Bokklubben in 1980, edited by Mentz Schulerud. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
