About “Umm al-Kitab”
The Umm al-Kitāb is a syncretic Shi'i work that originated in the ghulāt milieus of 8th-century Kufa, in present-day Iraq. It was later brought to Syria by the 10th-century Nusayris and was finally redacted by the Nizari Isma'ilis of Central Asia. The text only survives in a Persian translation. It does not include notable elements of Isma'ili doctrine, but it influenced later Isma'ili thought, particularly Tayyibi Isma'ilism.
