About “Vasavadatta”
Vasavadatta is a classical Sanskrit romantic tale, also known as an akhyayika, written by Subandhu. The exact time period of the author is uncertain, but he is generally believed to have lived in the second quarter of the seventh century. Some scholars, like Maan Singh, suggest that Subandhu was a courtier of the Gupta emperors Kumaragupta I and Skandagupta, placing his life between 385 and 465 AD.
