About “Vegetable Staticks”
Stephen Hales was an English clergyman known for his contributions to science, particularly in botany, pneumatic chemistry, and physiology. He was the first to measure blood pressure and invented several devices, such as a ventilator, a pneumatic trough, and a surgical forceps for removing bladder stones. In addition to his scientific work, he was a philanthropist and authored a widely read tract on the dangers of alcohol abuse. His work spanned both scientific innovation and social concern.
