About “Virgile travesti”

Virgile travesti is a parody of the Aeneid written by Paul Scarron in 1648. It was inspired by Giovanni Battista Lalli's L'Eneide travestita. The work is an early example of French burlesque literature and was produced in eight volumes. The last book of the work was not published until 1659. The text uses humorous and exaggerated language to mock the original Aeneid, reflecting the style of burlesque writing. It remains a significant piece of 17th-century French literature.
