Keith Stoner, an astronaut, spent fifteen years frozen in an alien spacecraft, during which he became partially merged with an alien intelligence embedded in nanotechnology within his body. The technology, originally from the alien spacecraft and now controlled by Vanguard Industries, has transformed Earth, while those in power seek to exploit Stoner's unique connection to it, unaware of the existential danger such power poses.
