About “Wigalois”
Wigalois is a courtly Arthurian verse romance written in Middle High German by Wirnt von Grafenberg. The story follows the title character, who becomes a knight of the Round Table but does not know he is the son of Sir Gawain. He was raised by his mother's royal family in an otherworldly kingdom that became inaccessible to Gawain after he left. The work was composed between 1204 and 1220 and was widely popular during the Middle Ages. It was later published in Volksbuch, or chapbook, format and remained available into the early modern period. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
