About “Will O' the Wisp”

Will O' the Wisp is a 1931 novel by French writer Pierre Drieu La Rochelle. It was also published in English as The Fire Within. The story follows a 30-year-old man who, after military service and a period of living in a cosmopolitan, decadent environment, becomes burned out. He struggles with heroin addiction and a deep sense of exhaustion and disillusionment. The author based the main character on the dadaist poet Jacques Rigaut, who died in 1929. The novel reflects themes of despair and the search for meaning in a fragmented world. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
