When Alexandra returns from her time on the London stage playing Ibsen's Nora, she discovers her husband has died of a heart attack and her female friends become increasingly involved in managing the aftermath. As she becomes suspicious of their behavior and her own mental state deteriorates, she begins to investigate her husband's past, experiencing paranoia and psychological breakdowns while searching for evidence of his infidelity.
