Kayleigh Towne is a singer-songwriter whose correspondence with her fan Edwin Sharp leads him to believe she loves him and that her song "Your Shadow" was written for him. After an anonymous phone call plays the first verse of the song, followed by a murder, special agent Kathryn Dance investigates a series of killings linked to the song's verses, aided by forensic criminalist Lincolyn Rhyme.
