About “Yingzao Fashi”
The Yingzao Fashi is a technical treatise on architecture and craftsmanship written by Li Jie during the mid Song Dynasty. He revised older architectural texts between 1097 and 1100 and completed his own work by 1100, which he presented to Emperor Zhezong. Emperor Huizong had the book published in 1103 to establish architectural standards for builders, architects, and government engineering agencies. Li Jie was later appointed Director of Palace Buildings and oversaw the construction of various structures, including administrative offices, palace apartments, gates, the ancestral temple of the Song Dynasty, and numerous Buddhist temples.
