About “Zenken Kojitsu”
The Zenken Kojitsu is a collection of biographies of Japanese historical figures compiled by Kikuchi Yōsai. It was first published from the late Edo period into the Meiji period and includes ten volumes and twenty books. The work covers figures from antiquity through the Nanboku-chō period and features portraits and brief biographies in kanbun. It includes 585 individuals, such as imperial family members, loyal retainers, and historical heroines. The collection was notable for its visual depictions of historical figures and became highly valued as a reference for historical art during the Meiji period.
