Oz, a character from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, was bitten by his werewolf cousin Jordy and struggles with transforming into a beast three nights a month. Those who care about him have accepted his dual nature, but Oz remains uncertain of his true self. He fears his wolf side might harm his loved ones, so he leaves Sunnydale in search of understanding. Giles tells him about a Watcher in the Fiji Islands who might help him control his condition. Oz travels to places like Tibet, Australia, and Hong Kong, exploring different cultures and ideas about consciousness. However, he soon realizes he must gain control of his inner wolf quickly, or he may become the victim rather than the hunter. This 2002 novel by Christopher Golden follows Oz's journey of self-discovery.
