In a universe protected by the Three Laws of Robotics, a key politician is murdered and suspicion falls on Caliban, a robot without guilt, conscience, or the need to obey or respect humanity, since he lacks the Three Laws. Caliban challenges long-held ideas of a robot's place in society, raising the question of whether he will lead New Law robots in a rebellion threatening humanity.
