The story begins with a revolution in the Middle East affecting the summer term at Meadowbank, a girls’ school in the English countryside. Prince Ali Yusuf, whose reform efforts are failing, asks his pilot and school friend, Bob Rawlinson, to protect a packet of jewels. Rawlinson hides them among the belongings of his niece, Jennifer Sutcliffe, who is going to Meadowbank. He is killed before revealing the secret. Someone suspects Jennifer has the jewels, and as murder occurs at the school, only Hercule Poirot can uncover the truth.
